Active Brake Assist 5
The fifth generation of the innovative safety system can perform emergency braking when approaching stationary and moving objects, and perform partial or full braking for moving pedestrians in certain conditions up to a vehicle speed of 50 km/h – improving safety for you and other road users.
Air Intake
Dust and large particles can impede your task. For that reason the air intake was dust optimized with a cyclone air filter which collects up to 80 percent of dust and large particles inside the rubber valves. This means a reduction in maintenance cost due to reduced soiling of the paper filter and longer filter change intervals.
Auxiliary Brake
The secondary water retarder is available as an option and offers greater braking power (with up to 3500 Nm of braking torque), higher average downhill speeds and lower weight than conventional oil retarders. It is a wear and maintenance-free auxiliary brake that can be used to perform up to 85 percent of all braking operations.
Bodybuilder Friendly
With its modular layout of the chassis concept, the Arocs is a bodybuilder friendly truck and ensures an easy installation of tailor made bodies. Several mounting elements are systematically positioned for specific body structures and clear areas on the frame are already defined at the factory for e.g. support legs or stowage boxes. Thus no subsequent conversion or relocation of assemblies is required. Also, an easy access to the electrical and pneumatic attachments is ensured.
Electronic Brake System
The Electronic Brake System, includes Anti-lock braking (ABS) and Anti-slip regulation (ASR) as a standard for all Arocs models. The system controls the brake system electronically and brakes each wheel individually. It also integrates secondary braking to improve safety and reduce wear.
Engine Brake
The Arocs comes with an engine brake as a standard: Thanks to this three-stage brake system, which offers up to 230 kW of braking power, safety as well as vehicle control is increased while wear on the service brake is reduced. The engine brake uses the engine as a compressor and constant throttle to provide wear-free retardation. In addition, a high performance, three-stage, wear-free auxiliary brake (for Euro IV/V) offering up to 475 kW of brake power is available for even greater safety, providing more opportunity to keep the service brakes fresh.
Engine Cooling
The Arocs is equipped with an improved engine cooling system which keeps you going no matter the heat. Due to this asset the truck receives a higher engine output even to high ambient temperature or altitude. The high speed fan (OM470, 471) makes sure that the engine is protected against overheating. Another feature to ensure that the engine stays cool is the automatic down-rating of the engine in case of excessive coolant temperature.
Engines
The Arocs comes with a choice of three powerful 6-cylinder in-line engines complying with the Euro IV/Vemission norm: the 10.7 liter OM 470, the 12.8 liter OM471 and the 15.6 liter OM 473, designed for low fuel consumption, maximum longevity and optimal performance. Both the OM 470 and OM 471 engines are developed on the basis of tried-and-tested technology and robust components, providing high torque levels at lower engine speeds due to its state-of-the-art common-rail injection system. The OM 470 is available with engine output from 240 kW (326 hp) to 290 kW (394 hp). The OM 471 is available in power output ratings from 310 kW (421 hp) to 350 kW (476 hp). The newly developed OM 473 engine ranges from 380 kW (517 hp) to 425 kW (578 hp) and it combines the best performance with optimized fuel efficiency.
Exterior Design
All the robustness and loadability of the Arocs is already reflected in its athletic, powerful exterior design. The radiator grille designed in a bucket tooth look lends the Arocs a striking, unmistakeable face and underlines its power. Even at first glance it is clear where the Arocs is at home: in off-road and construction sites. Another eye-catching touch is added through the standard-fit, grooved exterior mirror trim which is not only an appealing design element, but also prevents damage to the mirror and thus increases safety. The fact that the cabs are manufactured from 100 percent fully galvanised sheet metal panels is a further impressive feature of the Arocs.

The narrow frame, with a width of 744 mm and a longitudinal member thickness of 8 or 9 mm, which is made of cold formed, high-strength fine-grained steel, is used in vehicles intended for deployment mainly on construction sites and for off-road driving. Ground Clearance
Different applications call for a different amount of ground clearance. Whether it’s a platform chassis, concrete mixer or tipper – the Arocs meets practically any requirements. All Arocs trucks go into operation with a higher frame, resulting in greater ground clearance. Different variants of exhaust gas outlet, compressed air system, batteries and tanks with various cross-sections contribute to the large ground clearance between the axles. This results in a substantially improved ramp angle.
Mercedes PowerShift 3
Superior dynamic response, simple handling and low fuel consumption: the automated transmission ensures precise gear selection, short shift times, high driving comfort and optimal economy. Mercedes PowerShift 3 is the tried and tested, high-performance automated gearshift system for your Arocs. Shift times are up to 20 percent shorter than with Mercedes PowerShift 2 and up to 50 percent shorter than with Telligent® automated gearshift. For every job the right gear. Mercedes PowerShift 3 applies sensitive sensor technology for gear shifting to ensure the right gear selection in accordance with the given driving and load situation. Depending on the type of application and chassis, front axles with varying offsets and with a permissible front axle load of up to 9 t are available. The particularly robust planetary axles with a load capacity of up to 16 t also offer high ground clearance.
